Integrated Solid Waste Management (Landfill)
Delta County owns and operates a Municipal Solid Waste facility for the residents of Delta County. The Abode Buttes Landfill west of Eckert was constructed and opened by the County in 1996. The County also operates a trash transfer station east of Hotchkiss which has some restrictions on the type and amount of trash accepted for transfer.
Search where to recycle anything from paint, tires, batteries, auto parts and oil, and much more in the Delta County Recycling and Disposal Guide.
Accepted Wastes
All acceptable municipal solid wastes and load sizes can be deposited at the Adobe Buttes Landfill. There are restrictions to load size (maximum of 4 yards of waste) and material accepted at the North Fork Transfer Station. Call the North Fork Transfer Station for details on restrictions.
Conditions for Waste to be Accepted
Effective November 1, 2021, all loads to either location must be covered and secured; otherwise, double the normal dumping fee (s) will be enforced. The gatekeepers may inspect your loads for restricted materials. The gatekeepers can deny the dumping of any load found to carry unacceptable materials or for other reasons determined at the gate.
Temporary Closures
High winds and/or severe weather conditions may require temporary and unexpected closures of both the Adobe Buttes Landfill and the North Fork Transfer Station.
To find out if the Landfill is closed due to weather conditions, please call 835-7999. Once the Landfill closes because of weather conditions, it will remain closed until the next day.
Both Adobe Buttes Landfill and the North Fork Transfer Station are closed on the following holidays:
- New Years Day
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
