About Emergency Management in Delta County

Man made or natural, disasters can strike at any time. The Office of Emergency Management provides leadership, planning, education and resources to protect lives, property and the environment in the event a disaster were to strike Delta County.

Delta County is located in the West All Hazards Planning Region, which is comprised of Delta, Montrose, Gunnison, Ouray, San Miguel and Hinsdale Counties. Delta County Emergency Management works closely with Delta County staff, local and regional governments, special districts, volunteer organizations, as well as regional emergency managers and the Regional Field Manager of the Colorado Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM), to develop and exercise preparedness plans and provide emergency management training.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) established five (5) core mission areas for Emergency Management. They are: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response and Recovery. These mission areas drive the planning and training Delta County Emergency Management undertakes each year. To learn more, visit FEMA.  

One of Emergency Management's primary goals is to ensure training and information is available to both first responders and the community.  We first responders (law enforcement, EMS, and fire personnel), local government officials, and healthcare and volunteer organizations constantly prepare and practice to ensure they are ready if a disaster strikes.  We also want to make sure you're prepared as well.  Select the tabs on the left to learn more about Citizen Preparedness ideas and checklists, Delta County threats like wildfire and flood, as well as grant and volunteer opportunities.

To report an oil or chemical spill, contact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at 800-424-8802, the Delta County Dispatch at 970-874-2015, or by dialing 9-1-1.
