While Colorado is often touted as America’s “leanest” state, we are not immune to the growing health crisis of obesity. Today, obesity affects not just our waistlines, but our bottom lines. Colorado spends $1.6 billion each year treating diseases and conditions related to obesity. The issue is impacting the potential lifespan of our children. It’s weighing on our personal lives, in our communities, in our work and school environments, and as a culture in Colorado.
Cardiovascular Disease Screening and Health Coaching
We have the Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation (WISEWOMAN) grant that provides free cardiovascular disease screening and health coaching for those who qualify. This grant is an expansion of services to our cervical and breast cancer screening program: Women’s Wellness Connection, so people are enrolled in both. To qualify you must identify as a woman, be between the ages of 35-64, and have a household income at or below the 250th percentile of the federal poverty level. Call us and we will help determine if you are eligible. The grant provides free screening with a small blood sample to determine the client’s risk of diabetes and high cholesterol, as well as performing blood pressure and thorough health history and lifestyle evaluation. Goals around health habits are then made and followed up with a health coach, our nurse practitioner.
